Dangerous at set pieces with his aerial ability, as England found out at Upton Park in February 2003. Was appointed captain of Crystal Palace in their return to the English Premier League this season.<\/P>

A defender able to play stopping or sweeping roles, the experienced Tony Popovic provides a calm head in central defence. He also brings good distribution skills and an aerial threat at set-pieces. <\/P>

Popovic played for J-League club Sanfreece Hiroshima before signing for English side Crystal Palace. 'Poppa' represented Australia at the 1987 FIFA U-17 World Championship and 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship before making his senior international debut against Colombia in 1995.

The Australia men's national soccer team represents Australia in international men's soccer. Officially nicknamed the Socceroos, the team is controlled by the governing body for soccer in Australia, Football Australia, which is affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the regional ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).
