Jakob Poulsen made six appearances in FIFA World Cup™ qualifying, contributing one goal to the Danish cause en route to South Africa. It sounds like a modest tally, but the goal in question was ultimately priceless. It was not only Poulsen’s first for his country, it was the only goal of the game as Denmark crucially beat Scandinavian rivals Sweden.

Poulsen left Esbjerg fB in 2006 for the Dutch Eredivisie, where he featured in the UEFA Cup with SC Heerenveen. However, the switch abroad was not all good news for the midfielder. Previously a fixture in his country’s junior teams, the call-ups stopped and he disappeared from the international scene for a time. His return home to Aarhus GF in 2008 proved a good move both for his new club and for the player himself. He had performed with credit in the Netherlands, but the next decisive step forward came with Aarhus.

The year 2009 was a watershed for Poulsen. He made his senior international debut, clocking up a further nine caps within the next 12 months and appearing in six of his country’s seven FIFA World Cup qualifiers that year, five of them in the starting line-up. Only six members of the Danish squad appeared more often in their successful qualifying campaign. He also travelled with the squad on their Asian tour in January 2010 and was called upon for all three matches, against Poland, Singapore and Thailand.

Poulsen rates as a hard-running utility man, offering plenty of pace and stamina on the right side of midfield. He is a near-certainty for regular appearances once the global showdown in South Africa gets underway.
","F7CA086F6FC0A17A":"1","B3A1095C9EE738B3CCDF37762874FE45":"Denmark","7B89756F852CAAC9B0BFFB251E59B5BA":"181cm","938F319A1A9FBD67080C39FAAF431E58":"2023-12-19","76A6191E4A1B10776555B78F436CE4D1":"","2B1A74B80063A830":"1","3FFCEA12D25AA01C8516DF9EE5709D08":"","4DCB67625701BF17":"http://www.vff.dk/","2B4ACB3EB27556A3FE660F17C4669146":"Viborg","A09213A762233EEF":"Viborg","9754084DD0876A005F0B42622346E4ED":"10000","7EF75D1E4642E3E6135A1C322CA1E1B9":"","4103BB3BEF554F537F90B3CA00615F62":"Viborg Stadion","225C92AE74DAA9E1":"","E17A5F6F92350E090E8BE67DDCE16BA0":"

Viborg F.F. is a Danish professional football club located in Viborg. The full name of the club is Viborg Fodsports Forening (Viborg Footsport Association), but the name is frequently abbreviated as Viborg F.F. or VFF. The club was founded in 1896, but would have to wait more than a century before winning its only countrywide trophy, the 2000 Danish Cup. Their most recent spell in the top Danish Superliga division began in the 1998-99 season and ended in the 2007–08 season.

Viborg F.F. was founded in 1896, with several other sports apart from football - among other things were gymnastics, cricket, field hockey, boxing, athletics, skiing, weight-lifting, and wrestling.

The first big sporting highlight of the club came in 1924, when Viborg F.F. won the championship in Mesterrækken (The Champion Division), which were the best regional division in Jutland. A big title win at the time when, among others, Aarhus GF were a dominating club in Jutland.

Following the championship, Viborg F.F. dropped somewhat out of the picture, but never more than the club has always been on the Danish footballing map. It was a big relief for the club when it was promotion to the national competitions (4th Division) for the first time in 1959, following many closely missed attempts at qualification. One of the players taking part in the promotion was Erik Bundgaard, whose 421 matches for VFF is still club record.

Except for a couple of seasons in the start of the 1970s, Viborg F.F. have not been relegated to a tournament lower than the national competitions since 1959. Though the country's best league have been domicile for Viborg F.F., during the last couple of years, the club has been moving up and down between the country's two best leagues.

The finest achievements of the club came in the 1999–2000 season, where the Superliga bronze medals were missed by the smallest margin. Instead, the team was celebrated as winner of the Danish Cup, the DONG Cup. They then added the Danish Super Cup, beating champions Herfølge Boldklub in a penalty shoot out.
","8C128606F1271EBD3FC32654DF08FF79":"Stadion Alle 7, 8800 Viborg,Denmark","031D6804B38B16BF":"813","F606F62A92BA396C":"23.96","5F0187DA2A4C44A3E04ED039BC0E27BC":"Denmark","51AE3EEB542020D34C08128CD3C01E6B88EB69E1589159EB":"1896-4-1","1BB493FD74CF319A87F0858D78A18D01":"1983-7-7","986B9FBD3D7404D8":"Jakob Poulsen","DC9241C78561BCD0":"Viborg","897935219FCA7602F9B43DB32E1C5172":"17","6CBD8279C339CCCFFA070A7B102F2A71":"0","90024ADA60E09BCFED2A04F0D0E07833":"74kg","339EB2C6C5868AED":"22663
;
