National team

Since winning his first cap in 1996, Phil Neville has been used on both flanks by England, often in tandem with brother Gary. He was left out of the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cup finals squads - pipped by Gary on the former occasion - but was picked for UEFA EURO 2000? where he conceded a late penalty against Romania. Briefly captained his country in a June 2003 friendly against Serbia and Montenegro.

UEFA EURO 2004? qualifying

Rejuvenated at club level, Neville remained primarily a squad player for Sven-G?ran Eriksson. He played his first qualifier in England's fifth outing, against Slovakia, and was used as a substitute twice more.

Club

Neville signed professional terms with Manchester United FC in 1993 and made his Premiership debut against Manchester City FC in February 1995. He established himself in the first team the following season but has mainly been used as defensive cover in recent times. Still, his adaptability makes him a key squad member at Old Trafford and he was rewarded with a seven-and-a-half year contract in 1997. Neville scored a memorable UEFA Champions League goal in a 5-0 defeat of Br?ndby IF in 1998, yet did not make the starting lineup when the club lifted the trophy later that term, although he did get a medal. He has also won five championships and two FA Cups.

2002\/03: The campaign was arguably Neville's finest in the red of United as he anchored the midfield in place of Roy Keane and Juan Sebastián Verón. Brilliantly cancelled out Patrick Vieira in a crucial victory against Arsenal FC in December 2002.
